Getting to Compliance summarizes all compliance and enforcement options available to local governments from the expert on bylaw enforcement!

- Inspections, right of entry, search and seizure;
- Administrative enforcement;
- Provincial Court options; and
- Supreme Court civil injunctions.

Learn how to prosecute your tickets in Court.
Course Content
Prosecute This! is a 1½-day course on MTI ticket prosecutions with ½ day for mock trials. Note: There will be a homework component on Thursday night.
You will learn:
- Basics of starting prosecutions;
- Managing a case through court;
- Conducting a trial like a lawyer;
- Questioning technique; and
- Practical experience through mock trials.
Who Should Attend:
- Managers, Planners, Inspectors and Bylaw Officers;
- Animal control officers;
- Staff issuing/prosecuting tickets;
- Any staff or elected official who seeks to learn more about the court process.
Course Presenters
Troy DeSouza is lawyer and honourary lifetime member of LIBOA (the Licence Inspectors’ and Bylaw Officers’ Association of British Columbia) and a well-known province-wide expert in regulatory law, bylaw compliance and law enforcement procedure at Dominion GovLaw LLP. Troy’s presentations are dynamic, informative, educational, and empowering.
Catharine Schlenker is a Municipal Prosecutor and Civil Litigator with Dominion GovLaw. Catharine has acted on behalf of various Local Governments, Provincial Authorities and the Federal Department of Justice. Catharine’s approach in regulatory enforcement is assertive, sophisticated and savvy.
